In one of Netflix‘s quickest renewals for a first-year series, the streamer has picked up comedy Running Point for a second season just a week after its release. The news comes a week after the show, starring Kate Hudson, was released Feb. 27.
In its debut weekend, Running Point scored 9.3 Million views and ranked in the Top 10 across 83 countries.
“We are so thrilled to be able to deliver a Season 2 of Running Point to the fans of the show,” co-creator/executive producer Mindy Kaling told Tudum. “We still cannot believe the response from audiences – thank you to everyone who has watched! Thank you to our partners at Netflix, Warner Brothers, our star who brought this show to life, Kate Hudson, and of course Executive Producers Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis, without whom there would be no Running Point.”
In Running Point, when a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Hudson) is appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job.
The 10-episode first season also stars Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Jay Ellis, Max Greenfield and Justin Theroux. Kaling, Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen are writers/executive producers with Stassen serving as showrunner. Howard Klein, Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis also executibe produce. The series is produced by Mindy Kaling’s Kaling International in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling is under an overall deal.
