THIS is the moment an officer seems to muddle up his words during an arrest – leaving the robbers looking baffled.

The crooks were being apprehended in an electronics store in Northampton, Northamptonshire, when the bizarre exchange took place.

Damaris McBeth, 21, and Rhys Antwi, also 21, were being arrested after threatening a teenager with a knife and stealing his iPhone.

The thugs had followed the 17-year-old into a block of flats in nearby Guildhall Road, before trying to sell his mobile at the store.

Once inside, they threatened him with a knife and stole his iPhone.

In the bodycam footage, the arresting officer is shown entering the shop as the pair attempt to cash in on the nicked phone.

Open entering the building, the policeman asks the shopkeeper if anyone has come in trying to sell him a phone.

After repeating himself again and asking where they are, the employee behind the till nods and points towards McBeth and Antwi.

Once he receives confirmation from the member of staff, the copper calmly tells one of the suspects to “stand over there”.

But as the yob slowly turns around, the officer suddenly yells his name, shouting “do not move”.

He continues to raise his voice, adding “Move away now, move back that way. Move back”.

But as the officer starts to read the riot act to the 21-year-old, he bizarrely seems to muddle his words, which become incomprehensible.

He then points at the crook’s accomplice, loudly shouting at him to “come out now” from behind the shop corner.

Responding to the arrest online, one joked: “Reading his rights like that and asking if he understands isn’t very fair is it.”

Another quipped: “Okay, you’re under arrest on suspicion of robby don’t say anything yhowsettswahurhennerskewehersegsekkehbe DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!”

After being captured at the store in April 2023, the pair were found with a huge amount of drugs, including crack cocaine and heroin.

McBeth and Antwi, both previously of Lambeth in London, were charged with one count of robbery.

They were both also charged with one count of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Both McBeth and Antwi pleaded guilty to the offences at Northampton Crown Court before returning for their sentencing.

In September, McBeth was sentenced to five years and three months with an extension period of four years.

Meanwhile, Antwi was sentenced to five years and three months in prison.

Lead investigator DC James Oxford said tackling serious violence and knife crime “remained a priority” for the force.

He added: “I am really pleased with these sentences…

“… it demonstrates the consequences of thinking you can steal people’s hard-earned possessions in Northamptonshire and get away with it.

“I would like to thank the victim in this case for his support of our investigation.

“I would also like to commend the members of the public who helped us locate both men on the day of the incident.

“Tackling serious violence and knife crime remains a priority for Northamptonshire Police.

“I hope this case sends a clear message that if you commit these types of crimes here, the police and the courts will deal with you robustly.”
