Following a pursuit on Thursday, deputies arrested a man suspected of invading and burglarizing a Palm Desert home about three and a half years ago.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced on Friday that the suspect was identified earlier this month as Louis Moises Hernandez, 38, of Indio.

Hernandez is accused of committing a residential burglary that left one person injured on Aug. 15, 2021.

The sheriff’s department said it was around 4 a.m. when the burglary was reported at a home in the 72000 block of Mesa View Drive.

While the victims were asleep, investigators believe Hernandez made several trips inside the home to steal their property.

“During the commission of the burglary, one of the victims interrupted the suspect, and a physical altercation ensued, causing physical injury to the victim,” the sheriff’s department said in a release.

Officials did not immediately say what the victim’s injuries were or if they made a full recovery.

Hernandez then allegedly fled the scene and was not found or identified until March 2025.

It was around 1 p.m. on Mar. 13 when the Riverside Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit, Palm Desert Investigation’s Bureau and the Palm Desert Station Special Enforcement Team found Hernandez.

Deputies tried to stop Hernandez’s car in the 45000 block of Palmwood Court, but he failed to yield – thus initiating a pursuit.

“Hernandez was ultimately apprehended without incident,” stated the sheriff’s department.

Deputies booked Hernandez at the Robert Presley Detention Center for home invasion robbery and residential burglary.

Officials said this is an ongoing investigation, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Investigator Joshua Smith at the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station at 760-836-1600.
