CAMP SPRINGS, Md. (DC News Now) — There’s a growing safety concern in Camp Springs as residents say drivers speeding on Allentown Road is incredibly dangerous, especially for young children who are crossing.
Resident Monique Taylor is fed up with how dangerous speeding has gotten in her neighborhood.
“They treat Allentown Road like a race track, and they speed through here, and it is very dangerous,” Taylor said. “Maybe they can put in speed cameras throughout Allentown Road to slow people down and then on some of the side streets we can install more speed bumps to deter people from driving so fast through the neighborhoods.”
And that’s exactly what District 8 Councilman Edward Burroughs intends to do. This week he is planning to introduce a proposed bill before the County Council and is hoping to add speed cameras on Allentown Road.
He also wants to install speed bumps in some residential neighborhoods.
“My residents are fed up because they are putting so many lives in danger,” he said. “People are speeding or racing through so the community has come out in full force to demand additional traffic calming measures.”
On Tuesday, after Burroughs presents his proposed bill to the Council, the measure then will go before the committee in two weeks.
