Sharyn Ghidella’s replacement has been announced after the beloved anchor made a controversial exit from Channel Seven in July.
Sarah Greenhalgh will step in as co-anchor of 7News Brisbane’s flagship 6pm bulletin, it was revealed on Friday.
Greenhalgh, a respected star in the industry known for her coverage of global conflicts, will join Max Futcher on the flagship bulletin from Monday, October 21.
‘Coming home to my original 7News family is a huge thrill,’ Greenhalgh said in a statement.
Her new co-star Futcher chimed in: ‘I can’t wait for our viewers to get to know Sarah too, as we share the news that matters to them each weeknight’.
Greenhalgh is a Walkley and Kennedy Award winner and was previously part of the investigative team at 7News Spotlight.
Ghidella meanwhile made her comeback to the airwaves in September as she started her new gig on Channel 10 news.
The Queensland-based news presenter, 57, was sacked from 7News earlier this year 17 years with the network amid a string of media job cuts.

She has now joined Network 10 to anchor the 5pm Queensland news bulletin.
Her move to the network will also bring the 10 News First show back to its Brisbane studios after years of it being read from Sydney.
Fans were delighted with her first bulletin, with many sharing comments of support on social media.
‘The icon has arrived!! Amazing first bulletin Icon!’ wrote on person on Instagram.
‘There will never be another….never. Congratulations Sharon! The Channel 10 camera loves you and so does Australia! Welcome home!’ said another.

One more chimed in: ‘Enjoyed watching you tonight. It’s where you’re meant to be.’
‘So happy to have @SharynGhidella back reading the news. Ten news is where I watch news now,’ one fan wrote.
Yet another said: ‘It was so comforting to hear your voice again, Sharyn. All is right with my world now that you are back’.
One commented: ‘Watching @SharynGhidella on Ten News Brisbane Not Watching 7 News Success is the best revenge.’
Someone else wrote: ‘Channel 7 management will be kicking themselves.’

Sylvia Jeffreys joined the chorus of well-wishers, writing ‘Congratulations, Sharyn! And it’s great to see more local news on offer for Queenslanders.’
Others also had praise for Liz Cantor, who has also defected from Channel 7, commenting that they’d switched over to Channel 10.
Liz confirmed her shock resignation from Seven earlier this month after 17 years with the network, revealing she is moving over to its rival Network 10.
Meanwhile, Sharyn’s move to the network will also bring the 10 News First show back to its Brisbane studios after years of it being read from Sydney.
Sharyn described her new job as a ‘full-circle moment’ as she returns to Network 10 after beginning her metro news career with the channel back in 1990.

‘I wonder if my security tag still works,’ she joked in a video announcing the news.
‘Returning to 10 News First feels like coming home,’ the veteran broadcaster added in a statement.
‘Network 10 gave me my first big break in the early 90s, and to be back here, delivering a local news service for Queenslanders, is beyond exciting.’
She was recruited by Brisbane’s Channel 10 newsroom at the age of 24 as an on-the-road reporter and update presenter.
Sharyn moved to Sydney’s Nine Network in 1992 and became a regular newsreader on the Today Show, before moving to the Seven Network in 2007.

She has presented the network’s Brisbane bulletin since 2013 but was axed from her role after 17 years last month.
Sharyn confirmed the news of her job loss in a fiery Facebook post, revealing how she learnt of her role being cut while at the hair salon.
After several anxious weeks of job cuts, she took aim at the failing network for prioritising gimmicks like astrology readings over keeping veteran talent.
‘When you work in TV for as long as I have, not a day goes by when you aren’t expecting the proverbial tap on the shoulder… After 38 years, my shoulder tap has finally come,’ she began.
‘It wasn’t quite how I expected it to end at Channel Seven. I was actually sitting at the hairdressers for work, when I got the call informing me, that after 17 years with the network, my time was up.’
She said her recent time at the network had been ‘miserable’ and she was glad to be heading out the door.
‘While somewhat saddened by this decision, there is also some sense of relief. As has been widely reported, the past couple of weeks in TV has, sadly, been a miserable affair,’ she wrote.
‘A long list of talented, loyal and dedicated employees have been shown the door, in what seems to have been an interminable process of pulling the Band-Aid off slowly when it comes to removing what has been deemed excess stock.
‘These people are some of the best content creators in the business. They are good people and it’s been heartbreaking to watch.’
