A monthslong investigation into illegal firearm sales to criminal gang members led to the arrest of two relatives, authorities said.
A press release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office states that Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force officials began their investigation into the illegal gun transactions in January.
The investigation led to a search warrant being executed in the 600 block of Hummingbird Drive in San Jacinto on Friday, RCSO said.
“During the search, deputies seized 18 illegally possessed firearms – including four assault rifles and a 5.7mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with ammunition designed to pierce body armor,” officials stated. “Deputies also seized approximately 20 high-capacity magazines and three 50-round drum magazines.”
Two men were arrested as a result of the search warrant: Vaughn Gray Jr., 48, of San Jacinto and Vaughn Gray III, 28, of Blythe.
The elder Gray was booked for being a convicted felon in possession of firearms, possession of ammunition as well as possession of an assault rifle.
The younger Gray was booked on the same charges in addition to a charge of knowingly selling firearms to prohibited persons and being a gang member involved in firearm sales.
