Cooper Kupp has officially been released by the Los Angeles Rams after eight seasons.
The NFL star took to social media to thank the city of L.A. and hinted the “best is yet to come.”
“Eight years of incredible memories,” Kupp said in an Instagram post. “We talked often about the Rams being back in LA and how we would grow to be something special here. And there was frustration early on around getting the buy in from the people of LA.”
He continued, “But we knew at the end of the day, it’s about providing moments. Shared experiences. The things that parents and their children will talk about and remember forever. That is what makes the ending of these last eight years so difficult. It’s the ending of something we have enjoyed building with you.”
Kupp was drafted by the Rams in 2017 as a third-round pick and won Super Bowl LVI in 2022 with the team. In the same 2021 season, Kupp was the Super Bowl LVI MVP and the triple crown king, leading the league in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
“Thank you for these shared moments. Thank you LA for welcoming my family with open arms and allowing us to grow here. Next chapter starts now. Best is yet to come,” Kupp ended.
At the beginning of February of this year, Kupp took to social media to announce that the NFL team was seeking his trade, something he disagreed with. The wide receiver seemingly wanted to remain part of the Rams team until he retired, but the organization had other plans.
Kupp recently told the Los Angeles Times that two weeks after their narrow loss to the Philadelphia Eagles that ended their season, Kupp walked into coach Sean McVay’s office who told him they would seek his trade.
“I asked if there were any other thoughts on ways to move forward, were there any other options to figure things out, and he said no, this is the way they wanted to go,” Kupp said.
