A HEROIC rail worker who is fighting for his life after confronting the alleged Huntingdon train knifeman has been pictured.
Samir Zitouni, 48, is in a critical condition after 11 people were stabbed on board a train on Saturday.
The rail worker was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after the terrifying stabbing spree unfolded on board a London bound train.
Known as Sam, the 48-year-old has worked for rail operator LNER for over 20-years.
On the evening of the incident, Sam was working onboard the 18:25 Doncaster to London King’s Cross service when the horrific stabbing spree unfolded.
Eyewitnesses have praised his courageous actions, and the British Transport Police described his response as “nothing short of heroic,” crediting him with saving multiple lives.
Sam’s family have shared the following message in response to the overwhelming support they have received: “We have been deeply touched by the outpouring of love and kindness shown to Sam, and by the many well wishes for his recovery.
“The care provided by the hospital and the support from his colleagues at LNER has been incredible.
“We are immensely proud of Sam and his courage.
“The police called him a hero on Saturday evening but to us – he’s always been a hero.”
A 32-year-old British man was arrested shortly after the stabbing rampage on Doncaster to King’s Cross train, and is being treated as the sole suspect.
The suspect was spotted on CCTV at a barber’s shop on Friday – less than 24 hours before allegedly carrying out the rampage.
He is charged with 10 counts of attempted murder after multiple passengers were rushed to hospital on Saturday – with one still fighting for their life.
Williams – who was arrested on Saturday – was also charged with one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of possession of a bladed article.
