Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally on Sunday.
Puerto Ricans have reacted to the joke, calling it “disrespectful” and “racist”.
A Trump adviser distanced the former president from the Puerto Rico comment, which was also denounced by Trump’s Democratic rival, Kamala Harris.
