A large protest against Elon Musk’s involvement in the White House broke out at the SpaceX facility in Hawthorne on Saturday.
Images captured by OnScene.TV showed hundreds gathered outside with signs speaking out against the world’s wealthiest man, and criticizing President Donald Trump.
Musk has had a prominent role in the White House since the second Trump administration began in January. His official position is “special government employee” and he’s taken up the head role of the new “Department of Government Efficiency,” or DOGE.
Officially a temporary contracted office designed to cut costs and tackle the national debt, DOGE has faced criticism for cutting thousands of jobs across the federal government.
The protestors on Saturday said Musk was “undermining democracy” with his actions as an unelected official.
Musk, who has an estimated net worth of nearly $360 billion according to Forbes, has poured millions upon millions of dollars into the political campaigns of conservative candidates in the last year. Just last month, his nonprofit Building America’s Future spent 1.6 million on television ads in a Wisconsin Supreme Court race in support of a conservative.
It’s estimated that Musk spent about $250 million to help elect Trump last year.
