The City of Pasadena announced that some weekend programs have been canceled due to social media posts alleging federal immigration enforcement were in the area, including at a local community center.
City officials publicly confirmed that swim lessons and other programs scheduled for Saturday at the Villa Parke community center, Robinson Park and Victory Park were canceled in an Instagram post.
The reasoning behind the abrupt cancellations was “an abundance of caution after [officials saw] social media posts of what appears to be federal enforcement activity” at Villa Parke on Saturday morning.
Officials also stated that the “potential escalation of conflict that unannounced federal enforcement activity causes” was another factor in the cancellations.
Saturday night’s Club World Cup matchup at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena – between Argentinian club River Plate and Mexican club CF Monterrey – is set to proceed as scheduled at 6 p.m.
