Protestors took to the streets to show their support for Palestine amid the Scream 7 premiere at Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles.
“Paramount has a BLACKLIST of actors who criticize Israel,” read one side of a sign by an activist, with the other sign urging people to “Cancel Paramount+.”
The protest was led by Entertainment Labor for Palestine, CODEPINK LA, Musicians for Palestine, and Jewish Voice for Peace-Los Angeles. The activists on the scene were also pro-Melissa Barrera, the actress who has been vocal in her support for Palestine.
In November 2023, Spyglass Media Group slashed Barrera from reprising her role in the seventh installment of the film after she expressed support for Palestinians in the Israel-Hamas war. The production company behind the film said in a statement that they had “zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form” and dropped her.
Shortly after, Barrera’s co-star Jenna Ortega dropped out of Scream VII and left the franchise in limbo. Original Scream 7 director, Christopher Landon, also exited the project.
Despite all the exits, Spyglass continued the project and tapped Kevin Williamson to direct the franchise he helped create, having written the original 1996 film directed by Wes Craven.
Scream 7 is set to open on February 27, 2026, with Neve Campbell also aboard to reprise her role of Sydney Prescott and a script from Guy Busick. Courteney Cox is also set to reprise her role of Gale Weathers from the original slasher film. Mason Gooding will reprise his role of Chad Meeks-Martin. Newcomer Isabel May will play Sidney’s daughter, with Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, and Anna Camp.
