PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Prince George’s County Council has voted on a date for the special election for the vacant County Executive seat, and voters are looking forward to the next person who steps into the role to bring change.
A special election is set for 2025. The primaries will take place on March 4, and election day will be May 27. Positions up for vacancy are County Executive, and the 5th district county council seat, which Jolene Ivey currently holds.
Voters said they want more things done by whoever becomes the next county executive.
“More programs for seniors, this year they had like the lawn care for seniors, and I would like to see that ongoing as opposed to having to register each year. I would like to see them maintain their schools and the safety of the schools,” said longtime resident Joanne Adams.
Currently, Tara Jackson, the County’s former Chief Administrative Officer is now the acting County Executive.
If you haven’t registered to vote, requirements include being a U.S. citizen, a Maryland resident and at least 16 years old.
