PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Schools across Prince George’s County were closed for a third day in a row Wednesday following a snowstorm.
The storm left more than three inches of snow blanketed across roads. The school district noted the decision to keep schools closed on Wednesday, January 8 was made with safety as the top priority.
“District teams are working to restore facilities to safe operation levels and look forward to welcoming students and staff back when it is safe and appropriate,” said Prince George’s County Public Schools in the alert.
In the meantime, the school district will open five food distribution sites across the county to provide grab-and-go meals for students. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the following sites will open:
- Fairmont Heights High School
6501 Columbia Park Road Landover - Drew-Freeman Middle School
2600 Brooks Drive, Suitland - Greenbelt Middle School
6301 Breezewood Drive, Greenbelt - Laurel High School
8000 Cherry Lane, Laurel - Surrattsville High School
6101 Garden Drive, Clinton
Parents and guardians can pick up meals for children aged 18 and under. Students can also pick up meals from any of the five sites.
School officials said meals would be distributed in the front foyer of each school.
