PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Thousands of students in Prince George’s County will return to class next week. As the days count down, families on Wednesday took advantage of a vaccination clinic to get them ready for the new school year.
Wayne Rogers’s three kids will be attending classes at Greenbelt Middle and Roosevelt Senior High schools. All three got their vaccinations at the Prince George’s County Health Department (PGHD) clinic in Laurel.
“It gives me a very good peace of mind for the vaccines to be offered because during Covid when kids were home from school they missed their friends and that personal interaction and that’s needed for their development and their growth as young adults so I am happy they will return to school fully vaccinated,” Rogers said.
The county’s health department started offering vaccinations in early August to protect students from serious illnesses like COVID-19, Measles, Mumps and the Flu, to name a few.
Parent Gautier Houedgissi’s son will attend Bowie High School and said he feels a lot better knowing his son is vaccinated.
“We still have these diseases and we had a pandemic, so for me, it’s good for the kids to have something to protect them and they can be ready for school so they won’t have to be worried,” he said.
The Back to School vaccination program is ending Thursday, Aug. 22.
