(NewsNation) — President Joe Biden has issued a pardon for his son, Hunter Biden, the White House announced Sunday night.
Previously, Biden has remained adamant that he will not pardon Hunter, who pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges in September. He was also convicted in a separate criminal case in June.
In his clemency announcement, the president called his son’s treatment a “miscarriage of justice.”
“Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter. From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted,” Biden said in a statement.
Hunter is set to be sentenced on Dec. 12 for his federal gun conviction and Dec. 16 for a separate criminal case.
The “full and unconditional pardon” will cover both Hunter Biden’s gun charges conviction and guilty plea.
