Portage man gets 10 years for child porn
A Portage man was sentenced to 10 years for having child porn.
David A. Swisher, 29, pleaded guilty in November in the U.S. District Court in Hammond to possessing child pornography. He will also serve 20 years of supervised release after prison.
Court documents show the feds caught Swisher on June 23, 2023 with “sadistic” and “masochistic” videos and pictures of children.
He had a prior child pornography conviction, records show.
U.S. District Judge Philip Simon oversaw the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nadia Wardrip and Steven Lupa prosecuted. Defense lawyer Roxanne Mendez Johnson represented Swisher.
Teen partially paralyzed ‘weed’ dealer in Hammond shootout: charges
A Merrillville teen tried to rob a marijuana dealer.
It quickly spiraled into a shootout that left the dealer “unable to talk” and at least “partially paralyzed,” court records show.
Both were wounded.
Seth White, 19, the buyer, is charged with attempted robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery.
He is in custody, held on an $8,000 cash surety bond.
Hammond Police responded before dusk on July 23, 2024 to the 200 block of Wildwood Road.
White, who showed up with a friend, pretended to look at a cash app, then pulled a gun on the dealer, demanding his “weed,” an affidavit alleges.
The dealer backed up, then pulled his own gun. In the shootout, White was shot in the face, while the dealer was shot in the head, records show.
The marijuana dealer has not been charged, according to public court filings.
A court date hasn’t yet been set.
