The Los Angeles Police Department is in pursuit of a fleeing driver Friday morning. Sky5 is overhead.
According to police, the pursuit began at Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street when a truck hit another vehicle and a fire hydrant, then fled the scene before heading to the Hollywood Hills.
When Sky5 arrived on scene, the pickup was moving slowly along Mulholland Drive, possibly due to the vehicle’s tires being deflated in the crash, as the truck showed visible damage.
Just before 10:15 a.m., police tried a PIT maneuver on the truck in an attempt to end the pursuit, and though the truck momentarily paused, the driver took off again, continuing the slow-speed chase.
A few minutes later, however, the pickup pulled into a driveway on Coldwater Canyon Avenue and officers pulled in behind, trapping the truck. Traffic in both directions on Coldwater Canyon was closed as a result.
The driver did not immediately emerge, creating a standoff with officers who have their guns drawn.
The driver’s apparent efforts to escape have been unsuccessful, as the tires seems unable to gain traction.
Officers used less-lethal equipment to try to force the officer to surrender, but it wasn’t immediately successful.
