HYATTSVILLE, Md. (DC News Now) — A Georgia man is facing several charges after he was accused of sexually assaulting a 96-year-old woman at an assisted living facility in Hyattsville last year.
According to the Hyattsville Police Department (HPD), 25-year-old Kaimrhon Bonaventure was charged with 3rd Degree Sex Offense, 2nd Degree Assault and 4th Degree Sex Offense.
Court documents obtained by DC News Now revealed that on the night of Sept. 17, 2024, officers were called to the Independence Court facility on Queens Chapel Road for a wellness check.
There, Hyattsville police learned that a Certified Medical Technician was completing rounds when she noticed a man, wearing all black, running out of a room. The nurse told officers that she tried to stop him, but he got away and ran through the facility’s kitchen.
When officers entered the room, they found a 96-year-old woman lying in bed saying, “get him off of me.” They also noticed the bed was no longer against the wall but in the center of the room.
Police noted the woman’s pants and diaper had been removed. She told authorities that her hip was hurting and she did not remember what happened.
Once at the hospital, doctors completed an exam and removed DNA.
More than five months later, on Feb. 10, 2025, the Prince George’s County Police Department received a match for the DNA, confirming it belonged to Bonaventure.
Hyattsville Police Chief Jarod Towers says the DNA was essential for them to solve this case.
“It was, cross-referenced with the Maryland DNA database. And because the suspect has committed additional crimes in the past that resulted in his DNA being collected. We were fortunate enough to be able to identify him and confirm that he was, in fact, the suspect.” said Towers.
“Our detectives, do an amazing job going above and beyond to make sure they find justice for victims.” Towers added. “When they realize that this 96 year old woman, who was in a facility where she expects and her family expects her to be safe was victimized and traumatized the way that she was. They went above and beyond the call of duty.”
HPD told DC News Now that he was already being held outside Prince George’s County on unrelated charges.
DC News Now has reached out to Priority Life Care, the owners of the assisted living facility, but has not heard back. Hyattsville police say that the victim is okay and has since moved facilities.
