Officers found and arrested four juveniles suspected in a Westside armed carjacking attempt, police announced Monday.
According to the Culver City Police Department, it was around 5 p.m. on March 27 when a radio call came in of an attempted carjacking on the 6100 block of Sepulveda Boulevard.
Officers arrived at the area and received reports that the four young suspects approached a man and attempted to take his car.
The reports allege that one of the suspects then removed a firearm from his waistband and demanded the victim hand over the keys to the car.
As the suspect was making this threat, police said the other three juveniles surrounded the victim.
Details are limited, and police did not immediately provide the victim’s identity.
In addition, the suspects were only publicly identified as four male juveniles. Initial reports did not reveal their age, place of residence or any other identifying information.
“The victim told the suspect that the vehicle didn’t belong to him, and all four suspects then ran southbound on Sepulveda Boulevard,” Culver City police said in an X post.
After hearing these reports, the responding officers canvassed the area.
The department said that when one of the suspects spotted the police cars, he started running toward the 90 Freeway overpass in the direction of Hannum Avenue.
“As the suspect ran, he continued to reach towards his waistband,” stated the release. “Officers caught up quickly and placed the suspect under arrest.”
Police said that as the armed suspect was being arrested, two additional suspects were detained nearby and were taken into custody without further incident.
“Shortly after, the last outstanding suspect was located and placed under arrest,” explained the department.
Officers searched and found what they believed was the firearm used in the attempted carjacking. Police noted that the gun was loaded with a chambered round.
No further information was provided as of Monday night.
