The PM and his wife, Akshata Murty, were in Harrow, North West London, having a brew with constituents.

Mr Sunak chose not to go to Wembley to see his team win 1-0 against Leeds United, despite being only three miles away.

Aides denied it was fear of getting booed by 80,000 fans that meant he swerved the game.

Posting snaps from the morning on social media, Rishi and Akshata said: “We share the belief that our children will inherit a better world than the one we share today.

“It was great to be together speaking to people in Harrow about the values that matter to them, and the future they want for their children.”

READ MORE ON THE ELECTION

The campaign over the next five and a half weeks will see Mr Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer battle for the keys to No10 Downing Street.

On Thursday, May 30, Parliament will be officially dissolved which means all current MPs cease to hold office and vacate their seats.

TV debates between the leaders are expected in the weeks leading up to the election, with the dates to be decided by the parties and broadcasters.

Every British citizen aged 18 and over is eligible to vote at the General Election.

People must register to vote in the constituency where they live if they are not already, with a deadline expected around June 18.
