Even for the most experienced fliers, turbulence can be unsettling.

But according to a pilot, it’s no more to worry about than bumps on a road.

In a clip shared to Instagram, a pilot revealed what turbulence looks like from the cockpit.

The video, posted by @conqueringtheskky, which has been viewed almost 23 million times, begins with footage of the cabin area of a plane shaking with the text: ‘What passengers see during turbulence’.

It then switches to a shot of the cockpit during turbulence with the caption: ‘What the pilots see’ with a sunglasses emoji.

The pilot says: ‘What you see from your seat can feel intense but turbulence does not put the airplane in danger.

‘These aircraft are built to handle forces far stronger than anything you feel back there. For us pilots, turbulence is just bumps on a road. It’s uncomfortable, yes, but completely safe.

‘Pilots see turbulence every day. It’s not an emergency; it’s part of the journey.’

The caption reads: ‘If bumps make your stomach drop or your mind jump to the worst-case scenario, remember this: turbulence is normal, expected, and fully safe.

‘The aircraft is built to handle far stronger forces than anything you feel inside the cabin. Understanding this can shift your fear into calm.’

The post has received more than 500k likes and has sparked conversation in the comments.

One commenter wrote: ‘Great video and reassuring. I’ve travelled around the world on countless flights and still get nervous during turbulence. “Bumps in the road” sounds manageable.’

‘Omg thank you algorithm for bringing this to me,’ wrote another.

However, not everyone was convinced.

One commenter wrote: ‘That view didn’t help my stress at all.’

Another added: ‘Actually, that view out the front looks terrifying…’

‘Could have gone my whole life without the pilot POV thanks,’ wrote a third.

It comes after an easyJet flight heading for Iceland was forced to land in Edinburgh after adverse weather disrupted the landing last week.

Flight U22261 left Manchester at 5.45pm and was set to land in Reykjavik at 6.40pm on December 28.

However, the flight was diverted to the Scottish capital – landing around 10.20pm – and then returned to Manchester to be rescheduled for the next day.

FlightRadar24, a flight tracking website, showed that the aircraft was forced to re-route at Keflavik, Iceland’s main airport, as a result of the weather conditions.

EasyJet confirmed the diversion and added that there was ‘low visibility’. The airline apologised and offered passengers an alternative flight.
