(NewsNation) — British journalist Piers Morgan says it’s important to challenge those with various views, irrespective of their degree.
Morgan recently interviewed political and cultural commentator Nick Fuentes, who has made anti-Semitic and other offensive comments, which have seen him be deplatformed from YouTube and other sites.
“Many people think he’s to the extreme right… My view about people like him is you can either let them operate in their own silo, unchallenged, unhinged in many ways, and just spread their message, which many people think is extreme, to millions and millions of people, and they get their own traction without anyone holding them to account,” Morgan told “Batya!”
“They already have a big following. It’s not going to make much difference whether I interview them or not, but I do at least then have something on my platform where people can come, and they can see them properly challenged, and you’re not going to change their minds, the people themselves, but you can change the floating voter, if you like.”
Morgan said there will always be outrage at who he interviews; such is the nature of social media and society.
“Everyone’s furious with me for platforming everybody, which is part of the problem with social media,” he said.
“I do think it’s better than these people operating completely unchallenged in their own world. I think that can be more damaging than platforming them but challenging them.”
