LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A bald eagle was released back into the wild in Loudoun County after it was found unable to fly almost a month ago.
The Loudoun County Animal Services (LCAS) said three weeks ago, a Humane Law Enforcement officer responded to a call about a bald eagle that was found on the ground and was unable to fly.
LCAS said the flightless eagle was still quite active and made the officer chase it “through brush and bramble” before it was safely captured.
The eagle was taken to Kristi’s Caring Hands Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education and then sent to the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center, where it was diagnosed with a coracoid fracture and lead poisoning, according to LCAS.
On March 31, LCAS said the eagle was released back into the wild.
“What a difference care and time can make!” LCAS said in a Facebook post. “After weeks of dedicated care, we are thrilled to see this majestic bird healthy again and successfully released back into the wild!”
