A court case has today revealed that Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power star Peter Mullan was attacked by a man outside a concert venue as he tried to prevent a woman from getting assaulted.

Dylan Bennet has been jailed for 18 months for the assault on Mullan and the unnamed woman, according to a report in BBC News from Glasgow Sheriff Court in Scotland.

According to BBC News, Mullan tried to come to a woman’s aid after he saw her crying outside of the O2 Academy venue in Glasgow in September last year.

He attempted to intervene before being headbutted by Bennet and obtaining a head wound, according to quotes from the court. Bennet was also reported to have brandished a glass bottle at both Mullan and the woman during the incident. Bennet’s lawyer said he had been drinking alcohol and taking drugs throughout the night and that he deeply regrets the incident.

Mullan’s credits include Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, I Swear and Top of the Lake, the latter of which scored him an Emmy nomination.

In a revealing and amusing keynote at Series Mania in 2024, he called Kevin Spacey an “a**hole” and criticized the “‘Ring’ mob” of Lord of the Rings stans.
