EXCLUSIVE: Percy Jackson and the Olympians has settled on who will be portraying the larger-than-life Titan Atlas, as well as two other notable characters set to be introduced in Season 3 of the Disney+ series.

Holt McCallany has been cast in a recurring guest role as the legendary Titan, also known as the Bearer of Heaven, who was condemned by Zeus to hold up the celestial heavens after the last Titan war against the Olympians. Atlas has recently been freed from his burden and now seeks to lead the armies of Kronos in a war of vengeance.

Atlas is a pivotal villain who serves not only as the primary antagonist for the third season but will continue to cause problems for the main characters throughout the remainder of the series. Deadline understands that McCallany will appear in six episodes of Season 3.

The third season of Disney’s Percy Jackson adaptation is expected to follow the events of the third novel in Rick Riordan’s five-book series, The Titan’s Curse. In the book, Percy must rescue the goddess Artemis and Annabeth after they are both kidnapped by Atlas.

David Costabile will also be a recurring guest star in Season 3 playing Dr. Thorn, a stern military academy headmaster who demands obedience from his students. Fans of the book series will know that Dr. Thorn is only this character’s human manifestation, though, to preserve spoilers, Deadline will refrain from revealing exactly which mythological form he takes. For a refresher, book readers meet him early on when Percy and co. attempt to recruit two powerful demigods to Camp Halfblood.

Additionally, Jesse L. Martin is joining the Season 3 cast as a guest star. He will play Annabeth’s mortal dad Frederick Chase, a sometimes absentminded but truly brilliant military historian that Athena deemed worthy to parent her daughter. Per the character description, though Frederick and Annabeth have had a complicated relationship, he loves her, and they have been finding a way back to each other.

The trio join a Season 3 cast that also includes Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie, who will play the children of Hades, Nico and Bianca di Angelo, respectively, as well as Dafne Keen as Artemis and Saara Chaudry as Zoë Nightshade.

Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is currently airing weekly on Disney+. Meanwhile, Season 3 is in production in Vancouver.

In Season 2, Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) returns to Camp Half-Blood one year later to find his world turned upside down. His friendship with Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) is changing, he learns he has a cyclops named Tyson (Daniel Diemer) for a brother, Grover (Aryan Simhadri) has gone missing, and the camp is under siege from the forces of Kronos. Percy’s journey to set things right will take him off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits the son of Poseidon.

McCallany can recently be seen in Netflix’s The Waterfront as well as Misson Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 2. This year he also appeared in James Hawes’ The Amateur. His other credits include A24’s The Iron Claw, the Apple series Foundation, Guy Ritchie’s Wrath of Man and Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley. He plays the lead in the Netflix series Mindhunter and also has appeared in Justice League, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back and Sully. He has also signed on to lead the upcoming feature Paradise: Disturbed, joined by Lily Donoghue (The Summer I Turned Pretty) and Zak Steiner (Euphoria).

Costabile is known for his work on a steady stream of television shows such as Billions, Suits, Damages, The Wire and Breaking Bad. He will soon be seen in Mark Waters’ feature film, Hershey. Most recently, Jesse L. Martin led the NBC series The Irrational for two seasons. His decades-long television career includes appearances on Ally McBeal, Law & Order, The X-Files, Smash, The Flash and more.

Holt is repped by Buchwald and Atlas Artists. Costabile is repped by Verve, GGSSC and Gartner Group. Martin is repped by CAA and manager Bob McGowan.
