OXON HILL, Md. (DC News Now) — A family-owned business in Prince George’s County will soon be closing its doors after 37 years in business in the Oxon Hill community.
Jason Gaister, an owner of Linen World, says the decision to close was bittersweet. He said his family needed to close the business because the store could no longer compete in the industry.
“Well, it is a combination of things like competition from China and tariffs coming from our own government, and we cannot raise our prices by 30 percent, and we can’t compete, so that was the deciding factor,” Gaister said.
The store first opened in 1988, selling bedding and other items such as towels, comforters, kitchen curtains, bathmats, and wash clothes, to name a few.
William Ellis has been a faithful shopper for nearly 30 years.
“I have known this place for 25 years and my wife and I have shopped here for years, and I’ve been in Fort Washington 44 plus years. They’ve always been top notch quality, and I will hate to see them go”.
Jason Gaister says it has been a good run for nearly four decades, making lasting relationships and providing a service for this community.
“It will definitely be felt among our family, and it will be a challenge for us, but we are proud of what we were able to accomplish”.
Linen World is expected to close for good in two weeks after all the merchandise is sold. Everything in the store is on sale 20 % and sale discounts will be increasing each week.
