FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Traffic was backed up on Interstate 495 for several miles after a tractor-trailer crashed in Fairfax County on Monday morning.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the truck overturned at mile marker 43.5 and blocked all northbound lanes, near the George Washington Memorial Parkway Exit.
As of 8:25 a.m., traffic was at a standstill and I-495 North was shut down, as crews worked to remove the truck from the road.
VDOT said traffic was backed up for about six miles. All morning commuters on this route were encouraged to find alternative routes.
At this time, it is unknown if anyone was hurt.
