The Los Angeles Police Department made over 100 arrests connected to federal immigration raid protests on Monday night.

A press release issued by LAPD on Tuesday provided updated numbers on arrests in the downtown L.A. area that took place the previous night, 96 of which were for failure to disperse.

There was one arrest for assault with a deadly weapon, one for resisting arrest and one for vandalism, LAPD said.

An additional 14 arrests were made for looting; LAPD stated that “several businesses were looted during the evening,” and video showed damage to the Apple Tower Theatre and several jewelry stores.

“During the crowd control situation, there were numerous less-lethal rounds used by the LAPD,” officials said. “By around 3 a.m., the crowd had dispersed enough to begin demobilizing.”

Another update on arrests is expected Wednesday morning. None of the arrestees were identified by name.

According to a prior LAPD news release, 40 arrests were made by their department on Saturday and Sunday. Of the 40 arrests, 29 were for failure to disperse; other charges include attempted murder with a molotov cocktail, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and looting.

A total of five LAPD officers sustained minor injuries during the confrontations with protesters over the weekend, officials said.

Los Angeles — especially downtown — has been the site of destructive and at times violent demonstrations over the past four days. Protests also spread into Orange County when ICE raids were confirmed in Santa Ana.

Local, state and federal leaders have urged demonstrators to protest peacefully; L.A. Mayor Karen Bass went so far as to say that those who engage in looting and other violent activity “do not care” about immigrants.

Most of the looting is being perpetrated by “fringe groups” taking advantage of law enforcement being stretched thin due to the protests, Bass said.
