Brandon Hyde had had enough.
After third baseman Jordan Westburg struck out looking in each of his first two at-bats Sunday, the Orioles manager earned an early trip to the clubhouse for voicing his displeasure with the calls. Home plate umpire John Bacon ejected Hyde for arguing balls and strikes in the bottom of the third inning of Baltimore’s series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Bacon called Westburg out in the first on a pitch from Blue Jays starter José Berríos that Statcast tracked as well inside. Westburg, not one to show many emotions on the field, hopped in place at the call before walking back to the dugout. Two innings later, Bacon rang Westburg up again on a pitch that Statcast had clipping the zone, and Hyde shouted from the dugout.

The umpire didn’t wait for Hyde to come out, immediately signaling to eject him from the game. Hyde then walked out and yelled at Bacon while pointing several times at home plate. It marked Hyde’s first ejection of the season and the 18th of his career.

First-year bench coach Robinson Chirinos became acting manager in the dugout once Hyde left the game.
