BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. (DC News Now) — With Berkeley County Schools back in session this week, buses are out and about transporting children.
That means being extra vigilant about stop signs when loading and unloading children.
School transportation officials warn that failure to yield to a school bus stop sign may lead to fines, suspension of your driver’s license or jail time if it is a repeat offense.
“It is very important to make sure that we are loading and unloading and stopping,” Eric Keesecker, Berkeley County Schools executive director for transportation, said. “These are our children and we don’t want anything to happen. Most accidents across the United States happen at school bus stops with children.”
In West Virginia, a first-offense violation for ignoring a school bus stop sign is a 60-day suspension of your driver’s license.
