At least one officer was injured while responding to a trespassing call in Downtown Los Angeles Wednesday night.

Police were called to an apartment building on the 400 block of 6th Street around 6:30 p.m. regarding a trespassing suspect inside one of the units, the Los Angeles Police Department posted on X.

Around 9:30 p.m., “They entered the apartment and there was an explosion,” police said.

The officers then exited the building as the suspect proceeded to barricade himself in the apartment. A spokesperson confirmed to KTLA that an officer was injured in the incident and transported in unknown condition.

A SWAT team and bomb squad were called to the scene and some area residents were evacuated as they worked to resolve the situation.

A suspect was taken into custody shortly after 12:30 a.m. Thursday, police confirmed.

The suspect has not been identified and it was unclear why he had initially entered the apartment.

The cause of the explosion was also under investigation.
