WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The countdown is on, and in just a few hours, the National Park Service (NPS) will announce when the cherry blossoms will reach their peak bloom.
With spring just around the corner and the National Cherry Blossom Festival less than a month away, many are looking forward to seeing the trees bloom and come to life in the nation’s capital.
After finalizing their projection for the peak bloom dates, NPS is expected to make the big announcement on Thursday morning.
Last year, March 17 marked the peak bloom for cherry blossoms. This date came close to the earliest peak bloom, dating back to March 15, 1990.
The latest peak bloom took place in 1958 on April 18.
Washington, D.C.’s beloved National Cherry Blossom Festival will begin on March 20 and end on April 13.
