MCLEAN, Va. (DC News Now) — As winter weather is expected to hit the DMV Sunday, officials announced that the northern section of the George Washington Memorial Parkway will close Sunday morning.
The closure, which will take effect at 6 a.m. and last “until further notice,” will impact the area between Interstate 495 and Spout Run, according to the National Park Service (NPS).
“This closure is necessary to ensure the proper treatment of the roadway and to restore the parkway to safe travel conditions,” the NPS noted.
Drivers should also expect delays in the area’s reopening as crews must use “smaller equipment than usual” to accommodate the parkway’s lane widths and configurations.
Drivers can sign up for alerts for the parkway from the NPS, here.
