(NewsNation) — A political ad calling Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris the “official candidate of the Philadelphia Eagles” is fake, the team said Monday.
The poster appeared at bus shelters and showed a side profile of a woman wearing an Eagles helmet and holding a football. The team’s logo is printed just above “Kamala” in large type. The message below reads, “Official candidate of the Philadelphia Eagles.”
“We are aware counterfeit political ads are being circulated and are working with our advertising partner to have them removed,” read a statement on the team’s X account Monday.
The bottom of the ad includes a web address to a voter registration information page on the team’s site, which links to details about the Pennsylvania and New Jersey primary elections.
“The team has not made any sort of official announcement, and their Voting Resource website listed on it hasn’t been updated since the primary elections,” Eagles Nation posted before the team’s official announcement declaring the poster counterfeit. “To our knowledge: An NFL team has never (and likely is not allowed) to endorse a political candidate.”
It’s unclear who’s behind the ad and how it was distributed.
The poster appears to have duped some fans, who took to social media vowing to disown the team if the campaign were real.
