IT is a spectacular fall from grace but no one should feel sorry for Prince Andrew.
He has brought shame on himself and acute embarrassment on our Royal Family.
Stripping him of his titles was never going to be enough to purge this years-long scandal.
The King has acted decisively and with strength to boot him out of Royal Lodge. His Majesty and William, Prince of Wales, could bear no more damage to the household.
The public fury at Andrew clinging on to his 30-room mansion on a peppercorn rent was unrelenting.
He never deserved such kindness from his brother. Throughout the Epstein affair he has lied and obfuscated at every turn.
Andrew still denies any wrongdoing towards sex-trafficking victim Virginia Giuffre.
But, after a constant drip-feed of revelations, the public became unwilling to believe a word he says.
Shamefully, by refusing to go quietly, he also placed his blameless daughters Beatrice and Eugenie in the line of fire.
Such a toxic situation — which saw the King heckled while on a walking tour this week — had to be ended.
His Majesty will now fund his private accommodation — another undeserved favour.
The only positive from this horrible mess is that Queen Elizabeth is not here to witness the fall of her favourite son.
There can be no place in public life for him now. Andrew Mountbatten Windsor must disappear from view for good.
