WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Listed at 6 foot 5 inches, 300 lbs, offensive tackle Santana Saunders could be a huge presence along the offensive lineman for an NFL team.
The local prospect, originally from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, played all four years of his college career at Old Dominion University.
Saunders was a mainstay on the offensive line for the Monarchs the past two seasons and saw action throughout college.
In high school, Saunders starred at Charles Herbert Flowers high school under head coach Dameon Powell.
“A lot of guys look up to me in a way, so being that inspiration for those guys,” Saunders said. “I’m big on giving back.”
As a native of Prince George’s County, Saunders said his dream of playing in the NFL isn’t just about him.
“Whether it’s knowledge, whether it’s wisdom, to make it to the next level and to be able to come back and give back to them, even if it’s not even football players, but just athletes in general or even people,” Saunders told DC News Now. “To have that ability to go talk to somebody and change their life in a way, to me that’s what it’s all about.”
In the draft process, Saunders said he’s connected most with the Commanders, Ravens and Packers. He attended both the Commanders and Ravens pro days.
“This whole process to me it’s another day in the office. I’ve been doing this stuff my whole life,” Saunders said. “To be in this position, to play at the next level at the highest level, at this point you can only be grateful for what comes next.”
