The worker, hearing strange noised coming from the pipes, lifted the cistern lid and was horrified to find the child stuffed in the container, half-filled with water.

She was believed to have been dumped shortly after birth, as the roughly cut umbilical cord was was still present, according to blue News.

The baby was naked, and her hands had gone pale and wrinkled from soaking in the water.

Officers rushed to the scene in the Lat Krabang district at around 11am local time on Saturday after receiving a report.

The baby was taken to the Sirindhorn Hospital for a check-up.

Medics say the girl, weighing just six pounds, was miraculously unharmed.

Police Captain Kritsada Saikhong said: ‘The baby girl was under a day old. She was a newborn but there was no sign of the mother.

“We will proceed with the investigation to find who left the baby girl in the toilet.

“Officers are checking CCTV cameras to establish who was in the building and who used the bathroom.”

The parents face prosecution for abandonment under Thai Penal Code Section 306, which carries a penalty of up to three years in prison, a fine of up to 6,000 baht (140 GBP), or both.

A new mum who tried to flush her baby down a toilet before dumping it in a hospital rubbish bin walked free in 2017 because she was suffering from PTSD and pregnancy denial.

Iowa native Ashley Hautzenrader claimed her child was stillborn when she left it for dead after unexpectedly going into labour.

The 22-year-old’s baby was discovered alive inside a pillow case by a hospital employee at an Iowa City hospital a short time later.

Hautzenrader was handed five years probation on Friday after admitting child endangerment and abandonment.

She had initially faced an attempted murder charge, which was earlier dropped due to her PTSD.

In 2022, a student mother nearly accidentally flushed her newborn down the toilet in Greenford, west London.

23-year-old Lalene Malik believed she was suffering from constipation after suffering from stomach pains.

She had been prescribed contraceptive pill five months earlier so didn’t think that the cause of her pain would be pregnancy.

She had also taken two pregnancy tests, which were both negative.

During a visit to the GP, Lalene’s mum Sumra new something wasn’t right when her daughter was crying in pain.

After using the toilet, Lalene was about to flush, but luckily spotted a tiny arm in the bowl.

She believes the baby may have been stuck for up to seven minutes before he was rescued by medics.
