NBC News is partnering with journalist and author Joanna Stern to expand its coverage of AI and emerging technologies.
Stern, who recently left The Wall Street Journal to start her own independent media company, will serve as chief tech analyst and contributing correspondent. Stern and her media company will create content, including vertical videos, explainer stories and investigative pieces, across the network’s platforms. NBC News also will launch a franchise series with Stern, AI in America
Rebecca Blumenstein, NBC News president, editorial, said in a memo to staffers, “This partnership reflects a new model of working with leading independent journalists and creators who bring distinctive voices, loyal audiences, and the ability to expand engagement across our platforms.”
Blumenstein noted that she worked with Stern at the Journal, hiring her to succeed Walt Mossberg.
Stern joined the Journal in 2013, and had been senior personal technology columnist, author of the Tech Things newsletter and host and producer of its video series. She previously was technology editor at ABC News and a founder of The Verge. She won an Emmy in 2021 for her documentary, E-Ternal: A Tech Quest to Live Forever. Her new book, I Am Not a Robot: My Year Using AI to Do (Almost) Everything, will be published in May.
Blumenstein wrote, “Joanna has attracted a wide following because of her extraordinary ability to make complex technology accessible to everyone, regardless of their level of expertise. She brings a deeply humanistic and often humorous perspective to how technology affects our lives.”
Stern is represented by UTA.
