WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Residents across the DMV can expect to see heavy rain and winds Sunday evening as a storm that brought multiple tornadoes across the southeast moves through the area, according to forecasts.
Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a “hazardous weather outlook” for areas along Interstate 95 (through central Maryland, northern Virginia and D.C.), the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay and the tidal Potomac River.
The alert comes as forecasts predict heavy downpours, lightning, gusty winds and thunder across much of the area. A chance of isolated tornadoes is also possible.
In addition, a wind advisory has also been issued for the D.C. area until 4 p.m., as wind gusts could reach up to 50 mph.
The NWS noted that tree limbs could be blown down and power outages could occur. Drivers should also be extra cautious, as strong winds can make driving more difficult.
In Harford and Cecil counties, a wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m.
