Natalie Cassidy has revealed the surprising job she wanted to apply for after leaving EastEnders earlier this year.

The actress, 42, who is best known for playing Sonia Fowler on the BBC soap, departed the role after 32 years.

As she enjoys more downtime and the freedom to pursue other roles, Natalie has admitted she considered applying for a ‘normal’ job.

In a new interview, she’s revealed contemplating applying to work in Marks And Spencer on the checkouts.

The bubbly star said she loved the idea of getting to chat to customers all day on the job.

Natalie explained to The Mirror: ‘I actually have thought about doing a Sunday afternoon on the till at M&S.

‘It would be brilliant. I’d have to be on till number 13 because that is my lucky number. I would love it but I don’t think you can just do one day though.

‘I love M&S. If I wasn’t doing this acting I’d be working in Marks probably.’

Natalie has had two of her new shows axed within six months of leaving the soap.

She has revealed her latest Channel 4 consumer series, What’s The Big Deal? is reportedly unlikely to be renewed after not gaining enough viewers, according to The Sun.

This is not the only blow Natalie has had to endure as she recently revealed her BBC podcast co-hosted with Gavin & Stacey’s Joanna Page has also had to come to an end.

Speaking of the show axing, she said: ‘I don’t think it went down very well, if I’m honest. I don’t think it will come back. At the moment, there is no talk of it.

‘But I loved it and it was a great experience for me to do.’

Her BBC podcast Off The Telly, was her first big job after leaving EastEnders and also canned by bosses.

During a literary festival in Somerset to promote her new book, Happy Days, Natalie confessed to fans that the BBC had second thoughts about it.

She said: ‘We had a laugh doing it and it is a shame the pod ended. I don’t think it will be back.’

Natalie recently revealed that it felt ‘liberating’ leaving EastEnders after so long and her face had changed as a result.

She told Prima: ‘It was amazing when I got to reinvent myself after leaving EastEnders.

‘Sonia isn’t the most glamorous of characters, bless her, but I wanted to stay true to her character, so I never got extensions put in, or dyed my hair.

‘She was just a worker who didn’t have a lot of money and worked for the NHS.

‘But coming away, and breaking free, I just thought, “I want to be glam. I want to wear coloured nails. And just feel like me.”

‘I do feel like my face has changed a little since leaving EastEnders, because I was quite sad and depressed when I was playing Sonia, or angry all the time.

‘So I feel like my frown lines have sort of faded away, which is quite nice!’
