NASA has issued an update on the historic evacuation from the International Space Station (ISS) last month due to a medical emergency.
The agency revealed on Tuesday that astronaut Mike Fincke experienced the issue that cut Crew 11’s mission short by one month.
Fincke, 58, declined to share specifics about his medical condition or current health, but praised his colleagues and medical team for their ‘professionalism and dedication,’ saying their efforts ‘ensured a positive outcome.’
He shared in a statement that following additional evaluation, the safest option for Crew-11 was an early return, planned and coordinated, not an emergency, allowing access to advanced medical imaging unavailable on the space station
The crew, which also included Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Platonov, NASA astronaut Zena Cardman and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Kimiya Yui splashed down off the coast of San Diego, California on January 15.
This is a developing story… More updates to come.
