POLICE are continuing to search the River Trent in Nottingham after a car vanished in the water.
Officers are again scouring a stretch of the river near Victoria Embankment, after a car was seen in the water near Wilford Suspension Bridge on November 15.
Nottinghamshire Police‘s search teams returned to the area of interest near the embankment this morning.
The force confirmed that the renewed search was connected to the missing vehicle, but said it did not have anything else to share publicly at the moment.
Police previously said officers had been working through witness accounts and a trawl of CCTV footage to establish what had happened.
The force’s underwater search team had been deployed to search the river with sonar equipment – technology that uses sound waves to detect, locate and map objects underwater.
However, their efforts in previous weeks had been hampered due to the weather and fast flow of the river.
Although the car has not been recovered, detectives have traced the registered keeper of the vehicle, and their family has been updated and continue to be supported by officers.
Detective Sergeant Rachel Mayfield, of Nottinghamshire Police, previously on November 15, said: “Since this investigation launched, we’ve been working hard to locate the car, any possible occupants and establish what exactly has led to the vehicle going into the water.
“Unfortunately, the river is running very high and fast due to the high amounts of rainfall we’ve had recently, so the dive team are currently not able to enter the water.
“Once there is an update, we will provide one. Until then, I would ask that people do not speculate on what has happened.”
