A BRITISH holidaymaker has gone missing on a morning walk in Tenerife just hours after flying to the island with his wife.

Michael, whose surname has not yet been released, was staying in an apartment in the tourist resort of Los Cristianos in the south of Tenerife.

His disappearance has been reported to police and his family are said to be very “worried” saying it is totally out of character for him.

Michael, understood to be in his early sixties, was last seen at 8am on Sunday 15 March after arriving on the island on Saturday evening.

A Facebook group dedicated to giving assistance to people reported as missing in Tenerife alerted the community to his mysterious disappearance.

The post described Michael as “missing in Los Cristianos in an all-blue outfit”.

“He and his wife had just arrived on Saturday night and are staying in an apartment close to La Montañita, in Los Cristianos,” it read.

“He has no phone or passport with him and is carrying little, if any money.

“This has been reported to the police in Tenerife who have already checked hospitals. The family is understandably worried as this is totally out of character for him.”

The message added: “He is from the UK and speaks English.”

Anyone with any information about the missing man is being asked to email [email protected].

British expats and other well-wishers responded last night by offering him their support.

One said: “I hope he’s found safe and well.”

Carol Burton added: “Hope he’s found soon, I know you’ve said that hospitals have been checked but worth checking again in case he’s had a fall and bumped his head and is concussed and can’t remember anything, worrying time for you all.”

Deborah Clarke-Topper, who runs Missing Persons Tenerife, urged people: “As a matter of safety, please don’t go hunting in ravines, or put yourself at risk, just keep an eye out in case you happen to see him sitting somewhere or wandering about.”
