MSNBC has hired The Washington Post‘s Jackie Alemany as a Washington correspondent and co-host of The Weekend.
Alemany, who made the announcement this morning on Morning Joe, will be joining Jonathan Capehart and Eugene Daniels on the weekend show.
The hiring of Alemany is the latest as MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler looks to build up a news division in preparation for a spinoff from parent Comcast later this year.
Alemany will begin her hosting duties on The Weekend in the coming months, and will start as correspondent this month. She is currently part of the Post’s White House team, and she previously covered congressional investigations. She also had a central role in the Post’s coverage of the January 6th attack on the Capitol. That coverage won a Pulitzer Prize. She previously worked as a White House reporter for CBS News.
The current co-hosts of The Weekend — Symone Sanders Townsend, Alicia Menendez and Michael Steele — are moving to a nighttime slot at 7 p.m. ET, taking the place of Joy Reid’s show. Reid left the network last week.
