Shared electric vehicles are a quick, convenient way to get around Los Angeles, and there are plenty of them laying around all over the city.

Lime is just one of many companies that provide Angelenos with shared electric vehicles, such as e-scooters, and they are available on nearly every street corner in L.A.; the company said in a media release that since launching in the City of Angels in 2017, nearly 3.5 million people have taken over 22 million e-scooter trips.

Now, ahead of large-scale events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Lime is launching a new fleet of two-wheeled rentable vehicles, but they aren’t scooters; rather, they are e-bikes.

The launch started with 300 e-bikes that hit the streets this week, and more will be implemented as spring turns to summer.

“Over the years, micromobility has taken a lot of different forms in L.A. and the world,” said Karla Owunwanne, senior director of government relations at Lime. “Our city and community partners in L.A. are embracing two-wheeled shared transit…we’re also gearing up to play a bigger role leading up to the World Cup, Super Bowl LXI and the Olympics, where the city is focused on providing car-free alternatives.”

Since launching in L.A. in 2017, Lime has improved its e-scooter program by working with the L.A. Department of Transportation and downtown Los Angeles businesses to come up with improvements, especially regarding parking.

“Serving a complex city like Los Angeles requires significant investment, which Lime has been proud to provide over the years in both its hardware and on its employees, creating jobs and supporting the city in reaching its climate goals,” the company’s media release stated.
