MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — A judge found a Montgomery Village woman guilty on Wednesday of neglecting her six minor children.
Cynthia Moore, 41, was arrested alongside her husband, Dominique Moore, in May 2023 following the death of their 17-year-old daughter.
The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) said that a year before their arrest, on May 10, 2022, officers responded to the 9400 block of Quill Pl. in Montgomery Village for an unresponsive child and noticed the family was living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions.
Their 17-year-old child was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Moores were charged with second-degree depraved-heart murder, involuntary manslaughter and child neglect.
After a week-long bench trial, Cynthia was found guilty of six counts of child neglect of her six children, who were between 5 and 15 years old while living at the house in 2022.
“We stand by the charges filed by the State in this case and are disappointed with this verdict. We will reserve further comment at this time as there is still a co-defendant with pending charges,” said Lauren DeMarco, spokesperson for the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.
She faces up to 30 years in prison and will be sentenced on Jan. 22, 2025.
Her husband, Dominique, is scheduled for trial on Nov. 4, 2024.
