THIS is the startling moment an armed thug was trapped inside a store after he tried to rob it.
Jordan Peebles, 32, begged cops to “get me out of here” after he had been trapped by a quick-thinking shop worker who closed the shutters mid-raid.
Peebles is seen on CCTV dressed in black and wearing a hood and balaclava as he enters the shop in Riley Square, Coventry, last Christmas Eve.
He burst into the newsagents wielding a large kitchen knife before attacking a member of staff.
The thief goes behind the counter and brandishes the knife at the shop worker as he opens the locked cabinet behind the till.
CCTV then shows Peebles ransacking the store.
He was caught when a quick-thinking employee fled but pulled down the shutters behind him, trapping Peebles inside.
Footage shows a panicking Peebles desperately trying to smash the metal shutters but to no avail.
Police arrived and bodycam captured the moment the bungling crook begged them to let him out.
Peebles is heard asking one officer: “Mate can you get me out of here please?”
When the police arrive at the store, they can be heard firmly asking Peebles: “Where’s the knife, where’s the knife?”
He then shouts back: “It’s here, behind me,” with the cops responding, “Where?”
“Here,” replies Peebles.
The officers then demand he put the knife on the floor and kick it over to them.
Once the knife has been retrieved they then lift up the shutters and immediately slap handcuffs on him.
Appearing at Warwick Crown Court last week, Peebles pleaded guilty to robbery and was jailed for four years and four months.
Detective Sergeant Jay Aston, from Coventry local CID, said: “This was a shocking knifepoint robbery which could have resulted in death or serious injury to the man Peebles assaulted.
“The man showed incredible bravery and quick thinking to defend himself, leave the shop and lower the shutters, trapping Peebles inside.
“I hope Peebles will have time to reflect on his actions and choices while in prison and am proud of the work of all the officers involved, including the Response officers who were at the scene within minutes to arrest him.”
