Mollie King has revealed the heartbreaking reason why she and cricketer Stuart Broad haven’t got married, because she can’t bear to have a wedding without her dad there.
Mollie, 38, and her fiancé Stuart, 39, first started dating in 2012 and split soon after, before getting back together in 2019. They are parents to Annabella, born in November 2022, and Liliana, born in January 2025.
Mollie’s beloved father, an accountant called Stephen, died of a brain tumour just 10 days after she gave birth to Annabella, just three months after he had been diagnosed.
A year later, Mollie undertook a gruelling 500k cycle from London to Hull in her dad’s memory, in a bid to raise money for Comic Relief.
In an interview with The Times Mollie said: ‘We do need to get married — it’s high up my priorities list. We want to do it soon, but it can take a while to prepare. I’ve dreamt of my wedding day since I was five.’

And detailing the tragic loss of her father, Mollie said: ‘It happened so quickly, out of nowhere. I was in the final stage of the pregnancy so it was incredibly tough. I’m so grateful Dad was able to meet my daughter and see me in this phase of my life.
‘I can’t bear to think about my wedding without Dad being there. Elements like walking down the aisle without him I still struggle with. There needs to be a gap so I can process it all.’
Mollie spent seven years in the Saturdays, who sold five million records in the UK and she’s been at Radio 1 for eight years.
She also has a new show on Channel 4, Family Budget Switch Up, which teaches children about money management.
Mollie has lived a scandal-free live and while she is engaged to Stuart, she was previously in a relationship with male supermodel David Gandy for five years.
There was also a brief dalliance with a ‘smitten’ Prince Harry, whom she met at the polo in 2012, but Mollie declines to be pressed on the matter.
When it comes to her pop career. Mollie said the band have never officially split and are not against the idea of a comeback.
For Mollie, she would only return when her little girls would be old enough to take it in.
She admits she is used to being a cricket widow and notes that after Lilianna was born, he had to leave for five weeks to go to South Africa to commentate, leaving her with a toddler and newborn.
Mollie says her priority is her family, then work and says looking after herself is pretty far down the list.
She added that Stuart is ‘very good at taking time for himself, saying, “Now this is my time. I’m going for a game of golf.” I need to learn from that.’
Back in May 2024, Mollie detailed the moment she knew that Stuart was ‘it’, explaining how his calming nature has been a huge support when she’s struggling with an ‘anxiety spin’.
Reflecting on her dad’s passing, Mollie told Women’s Health: ‘When I found out I was pregnant, my dad was the healthiest person I knew. He was really athletic; he’d run three marathons in his time and he was still super strong.
‘And so, to then find out halfway through my pregnancy that he had a brain tumour and that we didn’t have long with him was such a shock – a shock feels like an understatement…I think [the lesson] is just be kind to yourself; to know that you never know what’s around the corner.
‘Also, that when you’re really, really pushed – that’s the hardest I’ve ever been pushed, learning to be a mum and then my dad passed away 10 days after the birth of Annabella – I actually think the big thing that I have learned is that we are stronger than we think we are. And I think that we’ve all got it in us to be strong.’
