Super Bowl Sunday was made even more super with a new look at Supergirl.

Ahead of the big game, Warner Bros DC Studios‘ released the new trailer next big summer movie, starring House of Dragon‘s Milly Alcock in the title role as Superman’s cousin — who has a drinking problem.

The latest sneak peek gave a glimpse at how Kara met Krypto the Superdog back when her home planet was still thriving. “Krypton didn’t die in a day. The gods are not that kind,” she says over a flaming shot.

Fans caught a glimpse of Alcock as Supergirl at the end of James Gunn’s Superman when she stumbles into the Man of Steel’s fortress of solitude. In the trailer, it looks like Kara would have no problem living in the same colorful, ragtag gang universe as Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. What’s clear here is that Kara isn’t a carbon copy of Superman ala Supergirl in the 1984 movie; she has her own personal demons. Not only does she have the grit to take on any Mad Max type who comes her way, but what sets her apart from Kal-El?

“He sees the good in everyone, and I see the truth,” she emphasizes in the trailer here.

The movie, directed by Craig Gillespie, is based on the Tom King’s 2022 comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which Bilquis Evely illustrated, and Ana Nogueira adapted the comic book for the big screen. In the comic, Supergirl and young alien girl Knolle travel across the galaxy to hunt Krem of the Yellow Hill after he kills Knolle’s father in cold blood. It’s been billed among fans as being akin to the John Wayne classic, True Grit.

Check out the first-look photos here.

Supergirl happens in theaters on June 26, 2026.
